It is important for parents to be aware of the habits that children should have before they reach puberty.

Our children need to understand certain things by the time they become teenagers, when they enter the real world.

When our children are very small, we do not pay too much attention to small incidents, words or wrong behavior.

But this phase passes quickly and then comes the time when we have to stop and think carefully.

They will be adults in a few years. By then it is likely that our advice and warnings will not have the same effect as now.

And that’s why we need to take advantage of our current opportunities.

What habits should a child have before he enters puberty? And what can parents do about that?

The feeling that they can trust you

It is very important for your children to know that they can trust you before they reach puberty.

Show an interest in their friends, their problems, and their concerns, and show them that they can tell you anything.

If you can do that, you’ve paved a path to something that many parents see as impossible at certain ages.

Communication with children is essential for them to grow up healthy and peaceful.

Knowing that they have parents who love and support them will often prevent them from making rash decisions without asking for advice.

 Accept ‘No’ as an answer

Many children are used to getting everything they ask for. It makes sense that they think that will continue as they mature.

What they don’t know yet is that things don’t always work that way in the real world. Their behavior can get them into trouble.

Teach your child to accept “no” without drama  Usually, parents with the best intentions give permission to their children, but after a while it takes its toll.

Put the phone away

Your kids have to learn to live without constantly reaching for their phones.  In an overly online ‘connected’ world, it seems almost an impossible task to interact with others face-to-face.

Unlike previous generations  , they grew up in the technological revolution of social media. That is a very large and important part of their lives.

Do not allow them to use their phones at the table during meals. Having specific times for use and knowing when to stop are essential habits for becoming respectful adults.

At school or at work, they can’t keep up with their social networks all day either!

Physical contact

Be affectionate. Adolescents can seem a little rough at times, but all children need to feel loved.

Don’t overdo it.  Respect the space they need for themselves. When they need affection, they know where to find you quickly enough.

A lack of affection and closeness can put children at a disadvantage in the future. It’s essential that they get that hug or kiss when they need it.

Learning to deal with failures

Your kids will fail every now and then. So, how do you deal with that? If they fail, reach out and help them move on.

In this way, they learn what happens when something goes wrong and how to get over it.

It is worse not to try at all than to fail. It is their successes and their failures that make them brave.

When they learn to fail, they learn that they can handle anything. They will not be afraid of what others think.

How they see themselves will be important to them. And that also applies to the pursuit of self-improvement.

Hygiene

It may seem insignificant, but it is much more important than you might think. Growing up also includes mastering your own body.

Parents will no longer be constantly telling them to change into clean clothes or brush their teeth. This means that they now have to think about their personal hygiene habits.

Part of the adventure of growing up is based on learning to do certain things yourself.

Independence is another important habit, or rather trait, that children must have before they reach puberty. Being independent allows them to be in charge of their own destiny.
