If you’re short on inspiration, or just don’t know where to start, this article will help you. Read the ideas below and discover that you already have everything you need for a fun afternoon with your little ones.
What crafts can you and your kids make with pasta?
Noughts and crosses
Our first suggestion that you can make pasta isn’t just fun to make. You and your children will be able to play with it afterwards too ! Butter-and-eggs is a classic and one of the first games children learn to play.
To make a tic-tac-toe game you will need the following materials:
- Pasta: Make sure you have two different types of pasta – such as butterfly pasta and elbow pasta. If you do not have two different types of pasta at hand, you can also make the pasta pieces a different color with a marker or paint.
- A wooden table against which you can stand lines (or, if you have no other option, a sheet of paper.)
- Paint or highlighters.
accessories
At first glance, this may seem like a very simple job. However, your kids will really enjoy using their homemade accessories while playing. To make necklaces and bracelets you need the following materials:
- Acrylic or tempera paint
- Wire or rope
- Tubular pasta, such as penne, rigatoni or macaroni
- Scissors
Bookmark, another fun craft that your kids can make with pasta
One responsibility that all parents should take seriously is to encourage your children to read. You can motivate your child in several ways, one of which is through crafts. For example, we recommend making a bookmark with pasta. You need this:
- ice cream sticks
- Pasta in the shape of a large bow (fettuccine)
- Acrylic or poster paint
- Glue
The first step is to decorate pasta the way your kids want it. The best part is that this craft is so easy that your kids can make a separate one for each book they read.
If this is the case, your kids can choose to make the bookmarks the same color as the front cover of the book they are reading. When they are done decorating, they can then stick the popsicle stick on the bookmark. This is the part that goes into the book. Of course, your children can still decorate the popsicle stick, or just leave it as is.
Decorate drawings with pasta
Drawing is an activity that almost every child enjoys. In addition, it is a good way for them to develop their creativity and imagination. That’s why we recommend that you let them decorate their drawings with pasta.
Be the first to give your kids some time to draw. Then give them pieces of pasta so that they can finish their drawing. The more different types of pasta they can use, the better! This can be, for example, spaghetti, fusilli, macaroni, penne, etc.
Your children can make simple objects, such as a tree or a house, or something more difficult, such as an animal.
A picture frame
This is another simple and fun craft that your kids can make with pasta. The photo frames they make are perfect for putting special photos and drawings in. You only need the following:
- Pasta, in as many colors and shapes as you want
- Glue
- An old picture frame. You can also make your own with cardboard.
The first thing you do is choose a picture frame or make one yourself. If you already have a drawing or photo that you want to put in it, you have to make sure that the picture frame is large enough.
Then let your kids’ creativity run wild as they glue the pieces of pasta onto the frame. Make sure the glue dries well and voila! You’ll have a beautiful, personalized picture frame that you can cherish for years to come.
Learning with pasta
One of the best ways children learn is by playing games. That’s why we recommend creating different learning elements. For example, you can create the human body, dinosaur skeletons, geometric shapes, etc. Or you can simply use pasta to help your kids count and count.
Materials you may find useful to use include:
- The type of pasta that best suits your craft
- Glue
- Cardboard
If you want to recreate figures such as the human body or a skeleton, we recommend drawing it with a pencil first. Then have your kids stick the pieces of pasta onto the drawing.
