Today at You Are Mom, we want to share with you  something that you probably don’t know about breastfeeding. Keep reading below to find out what it is.

Breastfeeding is one of the most intimate, warm and memorable moments a woman experiences when she becomes a mother.

Breastfeeding means feeding a person who is not yet able to take care of himself.

It offers your baby the necessary defense against pathogens. Breastfeeding also  strengthens the emotional relationship that started in the womb.

Breast milk is more than food

Breast milk is the best food a child can have.

There are also other recommended supplements when a child cannot tolerate milk or when their mother is not producing enough milk. However, there is no substitute for breast milk.

The first yellowish liquid to come out of the chest is colostrum. Together with breast milk, they immunize the baby against pathogens they are exposed to on a daily basis.

But in addition to providing food and immunization, the act of holding and caressing a child while breastfeeding contributes to his psychological well-being.

As a mother, keep in mind that emotions are transferred when breastfeeding, both negative and positive.

If you can breastfeed your child in a quiet place where both you and your child are comfortable, they will be happy.

On the other hand, if you are impatient, feel nervous/ashamed/uncomfortable… then you will convey the same emotions to your child.

Then they will cry, take it out and be angry.

One Thing You Didn’t Know About Breastfeeding: Oxytocin

About breastfeeding  we would all agree that  dedication, responsibility and above all means love.

But did you know that this hormone that makes you love your child so much is also responsible for the release of milk from your breasts?

Oxytocin: The Molecule Of Love And Breastfeeding

The love drug, as oxytocin is popularly called, is responsible for the attachment to your child, even before birth.

This hormone also plays a fundamental role in releasing milk from your nipples whenever your child needs food.

We will explain how this works.

Oxytocin and a Mother’s Love

When a woman goes into labor, the production of oxytocin in her brain increases.

This hormone makes the love you feel for your baby grow stronger as time goes by.

During childbirth, the mother’s brain continues to produce a large amount of oxytocin. Immediately after birth, the maternal instinct becomes stronger.

The high levels of oxytocin guarantee love at first sight and displace pain, fatigue and any other state that is not attachment, protection and love for the newborn.

Oxytocin and the release of milk

When the baby sucks on the nipple, the mother gets a nerve response. This nerve response is relayed to the brain where oxytocin is released.

This hormone travels through the blood vessels to the chest, where the muscle cells are stimulated. Then the breast tissue contracts and the glands begin to secrete milk.

Due to the frequency of breastfeeding, this mechanism becomes a reflex. That is to say, some mothers start flowing milk when they hear their baby cry.

While not extremely common, some women may also shed milk when they hear a child crying on television or nearby.

Mom, breastfeeding is a unique time in your life.

As the years go by and you see other mothers breastfeeding their child, you think back with nostalgia to the good times you and your baby spent together.

Enjoy this warm moment of nature and live every minute as if it were the last.
