Pom Pom Crafts: Fun For Kids
Crafts are the perfect activity for little ones to develop their creativity, ingenuity and imagination. Moreover, there are all kinds of materials that you can use: paper, cardboard, beads, cans, plastic bottles… But today we are going to focus specifically on the use of pompoms.
Pompoms are very popular these days. And if you don’t already have them, you can make them yourself. With just some colorful twine or yarn, you can make your own pom poms in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Crafts your kids can make with pompoms
Colorful caterpillars of pompoms
Caterpillars are one of the creatures dealing with the warmer season we are in right now. So this is the perfect time of year to make your own caterpillars with pompoms. All you need are the following materials:
- Three pom poms – choose a color you like.
- A clothespin.
- Glue.
- A pair of wobbly eyes.
The first step is to glue the pompoms in a straight line along one side of the clothespin. Your kids can combine the colors as they like. If you have wiggle eyes, you can glue them to the sides of the first pompom to bring your caterpillar to life.
Making their own caterpillars with pompoms and combining their favorite colors will help children see these creatures in a new light. Take the opportunity and turn this activity into a lesson about the life cycle of butterflies.
You can also read Eric Carle’s The Hungry Caterpillar and then start drawing or making a beautiful butterfly.
Decorate notebooks with an explosion of colors
Children often have many school supplies, including notebooks to take notes and complete assignments. To combat boredom, you can therefore encourage your children to decorate their school notebooks with pompoms.
Not only will this give them something fun to do, but it will also brighten up their time spent on homework. To perform this craft, you will need the following materials:
- A large number of pompoms in different colors.
- Glue.
- The notebook or notebook you want to decorate.
A Christmas tree, a simple craft with pompoms
We still have many months to go before Christmas comes again, but why should that stop you from celebrating it already? Christmas is such a magical time of year. Your kids will have a great time already thinking ahead. To get started, collect the following materials:
- Pompoms, mainly green.
- Glue.
- Cardboard.
As we mentioned before, this is one of the easiest crafts that kids can make themselves. First they have to arrange the pompoms on the cardboard in the shape of a Christmas tree. It may help to outline the shape beforehand with a marker. Then they only need to put glue on one pompom at a time and glue it in place.
A frame of their first initial with pompoms
This is another great craft idea for using pom poms. In addition, it is an object with which you can decorate your child’s bedroom, playroom or study. To make a frame from their first initial, you only need the following items:
- An empty picture frame.
- Glue.
- Colored pompoms.
If you don’t have a spare picture frame, you can make one yourself using cardboard and other supplies. Once you have your list, there’s only one thing left to do: glue the pompoms in the shape of your child’s first initial.
The colors and sizes of the pompoms you use are up to you and the children. In this way, the craft is as personalized as possible.
A connect-the-dots drawing
Do you remember the connect-the-dots activities you did as a kid? The one where you had to draw a line between successive dots to create an image? Well, with this activity you are going to do the same thing, but use your pom poms to make the dots.
You can make simple drawings, such as an umbrella or a flower, using different colored pompoms to outline each part. Once you’re done “drawing” your picture, your kids can color it in with markers or even pom poms!
This craft puts a new spin on classic kids activities like drawing and coloring.
Not only are all of these pom pom activities fun, but they also stimulate a variety of skills in children. For example, coordination, fine motor skills, creativity, imagination, concentration, etc. What are you waiting for to get started?
