Calm Down Mama, Because My Childhood Is Going To Pass Quickly
Calm down, mama, because my childhood is passing quickly. Everything doesn’t have to be flawless for me. Not every meal has to be perfect. You don’t have to sacrifice everything for every whim of mine.
I just want to jump in puddles and get dirty with mud. That’s what growing up is about.
You don’t have to be the first in the schoolyard. No mom. I want you to feel fulfilled, content and happy. Not suffocated. I want you to take time for yourself. And most of all I want you to say you love me. That you bend over and smile at me.
Tell me every day you love me. I assure you I will remember it for the rest of my life and it will only take five seconds of your time. These memories comfort me when I’m feeling sad, when I’m not feeling so good in my darkest days.
I also want you to help me understand that I am not shaped by my mistakes or my success. I’m only human. And prior to every achievement, I have also failed many times.
Mama, I want you to calm down, because my childhood is passing quickly
You don’t have to iron my t-shirt perfectly, Mom. I want the folds of your stuffed animals in my t-shirt. Let me feel what really matters. That we love each other. Not how nice our house is.
Don’t think about any stains on my clothes when I play. I want to be tickled and kissed. I want to share secrets with you and play hide and seek with you. We can share stories and play games as only we can together.
I want to understand that it doesn’t matter what toys I have. You have to explain to me what I can learn from it and how we can play together. I want to feel that you look at me and understand me, while I feel, talk and be myself in complete freedom.
Don’t push me away, don’t tell me I’m not doing it right. Remind yourself that I will keep hearing those words again and again, like an echo. Be patient and take the time to explain to me that there are things that could hurt me or hurt others.
Really, Mom. In time I will understand, but now you will have to explain everything to me. Let’s enjoy and cuddle together, because my childhood is passing quickly. This gives me the strength to carry on when I get older and you can’t hold my hand anymore.
Be flexible and let me experiment
It doesn’t matter if we should have eaten vegetables today. Maybe I would like to make a cake for you: stir the eggs together in the flour. Looking outside together from the roof. That way we share a world together that we make our own, just like when you play a game with me on the floor. I love those moments!
Mom, relax and think. I know you’re busy, but you have to realize that you can take it easy, but my childhood is passing quickly. Make time for me, without always wanting to check everything.
The most beautiful moments in life happen unplanned. Let loose the reins. It doesn’t matter when we eat dinner at six thirty instead of six. You teach me what is most important in life and that sometimes the dishes can wait.
let me be a child
We can cuddle in bed together. We can get stomachaches from laughing. Or talk about what’s on our minds and share moments we’ll never forget. Really, it’s your love that helps me grow up. It’s your love that makes my childhood a great stage in my life.
But if you don’t let me jump in the mud or let me catch ladybugs, don’t give me the chance to tell you my secrets, then my childhood will lose some of its magic and meaning.
Calm down mom, we’re in no rush. I know you’re busy, but let’s keep it simple and have fun together. Let me cry, make me laugh, let my imagination run wild and let me discover the world.
Do not be afraid and do not feel burdened. Don’t forget that with a hug you make my world a little bit more beautiful. To me there is nothing better than you standing next to me, watering my roots and making me part of your world. Because my childhood is passing quickly.
Don’t forget: the only appointment you can’t reschedule is my childhood. It’s a one-way ticket and there’s no going back.
