How to teach your children to learn effectively
Respect their time
Every child learns at a different pace. It is therefore important to respect that. There are set age groups for learning different things. However, these are only approximations, it is an average.
Don’t worry if your child isn’t exactly following the average. This does not mean that there is a problem. For example, if your child is under pressure, it will develop more slowly.
Let them make mistakes
Don’t correct your child all the time when they make mistakes. Then they get frustrated. There is nothing more effective than self-correcting learning.
A good example is the Montessorri method. For example, children discover themselves that they have made a mistake somewhere in the process. They notice this when they see that they have not received the correct answer. This then forces them to reason and learn from their mistakes.
Learning effectively by making them think
One of the most important parts of effective learning is helping children by asking questions. Invite them to ask questions about anything. Help them find an explanation for all the questions around them. Make them endlessly curious. You can do this by asking them questions and planting small seeds in their heads.
Pay attention to what motivates them
Everyone learns from all kinds of situations. This is even more true for children. Don’t judge their taste. Everything is useful to promote effective learning. Superheroes, football, video games, stories, dolls…
They are just tools to grab their attention and arouse their interest. So get them excited about dinosaurs, learning about the earth, the universe, animals… Everything can be fascinating.
You can even read your youngest children’s football album. Have them remember or read the names of the soccer players. Find out what they like. What makes them sit on the edge of their seats?
Celebrate their success
Nothing is more motivating than knowing you are achieving your goals. Sometimes kids don’t even realize how much they’ve learned. Others need to validate their knowledge through you.
This does not mean that you should encourage them with every step they take. That can actually work against you. They can become addicted to the constant approval of another.
Rather say, “ I see you’ve done a lot of math without making any mistakes. Well done! Saying things like this can be very helpful.
Life is a game
For children, everything is a game, so learning should be fun. Play memory games, fun activities that motivate children and invite them to learn something new.
Children can learn faster than we think. Especially if we respect their pace and stimulate their creativity and also if they see that their parents are also constantly learning.
