My Baby Won’t Stop Crying!
Many parents are desperately wondering why their baby won’t stop crying and they don’t know what to do. In this article we will help you solve this situation.
Crying is the way babies express themselves. However, when they cry constantly, it goes beyond the limits of our patience.
Is it normal for my baby to keep crying?
A baby ‘s cry can be heartbreaking and become our worst nightmare. It keeps us from enjoying parenthood. You’ve probably heard some parents say, “I can’t sleep because my baby is crying so much”, and they look tired and in a bad mood.
Other than that, you sometimes see them giving up completely because “babies are supposed to cry, it’s normal for them.” While the little ones use their howling to communicate what they feel or need, it is also true that they should not spend their days crying.
When is it understandable and when is it exaggerated? Not all babies are the same; you probably already knew that. Also keep in mind that newborns tend to cry more. It’s all new to them and they don’t understand their bodies and emotions yet.
Reasons Your Baby Won’t Stop Crying
To solve this problem, the first step is to determine why they cry so much.
- One of the most common reasons is colic, which is present during the early months. Colic includes a range of symptoms such as abdominal pain, gas, vomiting, diarrhea or constipation. It can be very unpleasant for the baby.
- Babies may also cry because they are very hungry. Perhaps breast milk is not enough to fully saturate them and therefore they need extra nutrition. Ask your pediatrician for advice on this matter.
- Another reason your baby may cry is that he may be sensitive to high temperatures, or his clothes may be too tight. Maybe he can’t stand it when his diaper is wet or maybe he’s just really tired and can’t sleep well.
- Did you know that some babies can easily get nervous in environments that don’t give them the peace they need ? This is often a common reason for the intense crying.
In that case, you might want to resort to musical techniques or take the baby for a ride in the stroller or car. A change of scenery will help reduce stress and anxiety.
My baby won’t stop crying and I can’t calm him down!
This is a common problem, especially for people who are getting older for the first time. Most of the time they don’t know how to stop their baby’s crying. And of course this makes them anxious.
What they may not know is that the fear is spreading to the baby ; and maybe that’s why all the techniques they try don’t work. So the first step is for Mom and Dad to calm down. Do a meditation or breathing exercise, go to another room alone for a while, drink some tea, or take a nap.
Once you feel calm again, you can take the baby in your arms and hold her against your chest so that the baby can feel her mother’s or father’s heart beating.
Some people recommend taking your shirt off to get the most out of skin-to-skin contact. In addition, lullabies, music and caresses can help a lot.
‘The Hold’ technique
Another option is ‘the Hold’, invented by Dr. Robert Hamilton, an American physician.
- You let your baby sit in one of your hands. Then you embrace the baby with your free hand.
- Then hold the baby against your chest with one hand and bend her to 45°, very gently. Try not to let the baby’s head lean forward too much.
- Then rock the baby back and forth and smoothly move her hips in circles. You will see your little one calm down right away!
If you’ve ever said “my baby won’t stop crying,” we recommend this technique once you’ve ruled out all possible health problems and causes of discomfort.
