The Smell Of A Baby: A Sensational Band

Is there anything better than the smell of a newborn baby? Is there anything that melts our hearts and touches us more than the natural scent of a baby? There is probably little in life as memorable, inspiring, or intense as the love of a baby’s scent.

No scent will endear you so much and no scent is more important than the smell of a baby. It envelops you like a little oasis of love, care and protection.

The smell of a baby is a heavenly symphony

There are studies showing that the smell of a baby is as addictive to a mother as drugs. From an evolutionary point of view, this is not so strange, because the sense of smell strengthens the bond between a mother and her child.

But how does this work? Let’s look at this biological response, which is related to our maternal instinct.

First of all, we need to know that our nose is essential for the emotional connections. They help make connections with the world around us. The part of the brain that deals with this is called the rhinencephalon, or the olfactory brain.

The olfactory bulbs are directly linked to the amygdala, the center of the brain that controls our (maternal) instinct. They also send a signal to our brains to release dopamine. This is a hormone associated with the most pleasurable rewards.

This means that in our experience the smell of a baby will always be associated with the overwhelming feeling of love and protection. 

Although our sense of smell develops during pregnancy,  the greatest neural transformation takes place during birth: imprinting.

It is an imprint that we will always remember: the first thread in a network of feelings that connect mother and child. In fact, within 24 after birth, a mother can distinguish her child from other babies by smell .

The smell of a baby is of great importance for emotional communication

When a mother holds, hugs or strokes her child, these are gestures of pure and direct love. At the same time, when a child lies comfortably on the mother’s lap, both communicate without becoming. 

This emotional communication, which we establish with our baby through gestures, are the best moments of this phase. It’s something almost every mother remembers when their children grow up.

It’s nice to write down these feelings or capture the little details that give us so much affection. They always remind us how much we love our children.

In this way, we will be able to recall these feelings as our children grow older. We can tell our children their own story as honestly as possible.

It’s a shame we can’t keep a baby’s scent in a jar.  It is without a doubt one of the most powerful perfumes we will smell in our lifetime. The smell of a baby is associated with the purest memories, which will stay with us forever.
